In February 2018, a friend (and fellow theatre lover) Jose Solís and I started a new project. The idea was to have us, as people of color, talk about theatre. It was a simple concept borne out of us noticing that theatre criticism, like most other arts criticism, is dominated by white and male voices. We wanted to put our own stamp onto the conversation, and luckily, my bosses at American Theatre magazine approved and agreed to host us. So every month, we release video interviews with interesting artists and reviewed shows.
In our first year, we interviewed people like William Jackson Harper (“The Good Place”), Andre Holland (“Moonlight”), Daphne Rubin-Vega (“Rent”), and so many others. In 2019, we’re opening the year with a live show at BroadwayCon in New York City. Exciting stuff! You can find the podcast and videos here.
